WordPress 3.3 RC3

So I decided to upgrade to WordPress 3.3 a little early (its on RC3). So far…. so good, and it looks like it’s going to be another solid release from the WordPress team. I have been thinking that it is about time I get involved in the WordPress community as developer, seeing as I have been using the software now for years. Not sure what I am going to do first, but I plan on building something.

Not much else new to report. But eventually I will update this thing more frequently.

MacHeist Loot

So I am posting to my WordPress blog from MacJournal which is one of the products I received when I purchased MacHeist Nano 2. Pretty cool product, and it can post directly to my blog. It is awesome! Pretty cool products in this run of MacHeist. Tweetie 2 for Mac is actually bundled into it, when the alpha is released I will be getting a copy!

Where did you get my profile image?

I have been asked numerous times how after a person posts a comment on my blog, do I have a profile picture for them. If you are really into social media or blogs you probably already know the answer, but if you don’t, I will be glad to explain it to you.

The answer is a service called Gravatar or a “globally recognized avatar”. It is a service that allows you to associate an image of yourself (or anything else for that matter) to your email address (or multiples). So when a site like mine sees your email address on a comment we can get your current image from Gravatar.

Gravatar was created by the fine people at Automattic who also contribute to WordPress (the greatest blog engine, ever!)

So if you are into social media, or even if you are not, go ahead and sign up for Gravatar and make sure that your profile images are your own.

WordPress 2.8

Wordpress 2.8 is out and beside a few plugin incompatibilities I think it is a great release. There seems to be a lot of negative attention to some of the bugs due to plugins on the WordPress.org boards but I found the 1 offending plugin and disabled it until it was fixed. Besides that, now it is time to update my theme to take advantage of all of the new WordPress goodies! Thanks guys!
